Lesson 8 – 사과하기

 

Jason: Who was that?

Sophie: Oh, I’m really sorry, it was me! I stepped on your foot.

Jason: It’s all right! It could happen to anyone. Apologies accepted.

Sophie: I didn’t mean it. I take the blame.

Jason: Don’t worry about it. No big deal. Plus, it was the driver’s fault, not yours.

Sophie: Thank you. You are very kind.

 

Jason: 누구야?

Sophie: 오, 정말로 죄송합니다. 제가 그랬어요! 제가 발을 밟았습니다.

Jason: 아~ 네, 그럴 수도 있죠, 뭐. 용서해 드릴께요.

Sophie: 고의적으로 그런 것은 아닙니다. 제 불찰입니다.

Jason: 아니오. 괜찮아요. 별것도 아닌데요. 그리고 당신 잘못이 아니라 운전자 잘못이죠.

Sophie: 감사합니다. 정말로 친절하시군요.

 

< Key Expressions >

 

■ step on~: ~을 밟다

(단어에서 'oo' 가 사용되었을 때 뒤에 p, t, k 가 오면‘[u]’ 발음이 난다.)

■ It could happen to anyone.: 누구에게나 일어날 수 있다. (구어)그럴 수 도 있죠.

 

■ Apologies accepted.: 용서해 드릴께요, 사과접수!

 

■ didn’t mean it: 고의적인 것은 아니다

*nothing personal = didn’t mean it

 

■ take the blame: 잘못을 책임지다

 

■ Don’t worry about it.: (사과하는 상황) 괜찮습니다.

 

■ No big deal.: 큰 일이 아니다.

 

■ You are so nice.: You are very kind.

 

 

What if...– 너무 아파요!

 

Sophie: I’m terribly sorry. I couldn’t help it.

Jason: Sorry isn’t good enough! Can’t you see I am wearing a pair of flip-flops?

Sophie: Again, I’m awfully sorry. What do you think I should do?

Jason: Well, can’t you see I’m bleeding now? I think taking me to the hospital is a good idea!

 

Sophie: 정말로 죄송합니다. 저도 어쩔 수 없었어요.

Jason: 미안하다면 다에요? 제가 고무 슬러퍼를 신고 있는 것이 안보여요?

Sophie: 다시 한번 정말 죄송합니다. 제가 어떻게 하면 좋을까요?

Jason: 흠, 제가 지금 피를 흘리고 있는 것이 안보이세요? 제 생각엔 댁이 저를 병원으로 데려가셔야 할 것 같은데요!

 

< Key Expressions >

 

■ terribly sorry=very very sorry: 정말 정말 죄송한

*terribly = 몹시, 굉장히, 대단히

ex. I’m terribly hungry.

 

■ couldn’t help it: 어쩔 수 없었다

 

■ wear: ~을 입고 있다, 쓰고 있다, 신고 있다

(영어에서는 몸에 착용하는 모든 것을 동사 wear 를 사용한다. wear socks, wear glasses, wear shirts…)

 

■ a pair of flip-flops: 샌달

*샌달을 신고 걸을 때 나는 소리를 사용해 만들어진 재미있는 단어

 

■ ~ is not good enough: ~이 충분하지 않다

ex. Sorry is not good enough.

 

■ I am bleeding.: 나는 피를 흘리고 있어요.
