1. 언어 습득

 

The sound h-a-t would remain meaningless to a baby /

if it were not uttered in connection with an action /

which is participated in by a number of people.

When a mother is taking an infant outdoors,/

she says "hat" /as she puts something on the baby's head.

Being taken out becomes an interest to the child;/

mother and child not only go out with each other physically,/

but both are concerned in the going out; /

and they enjoy it in common.

By conjunction with the other factors in activity/

the sound "hat" soon gets the same meaning for the child /

that it has for the parent; /

it becomes a sign of the activity /

into which the child enters.

The bare fact / that language consists of sounds which are mutually intelligible /

is enough of itself to show /

that its meaning depends upon connection/

with a shared experience.

 

'h-a-t'이라는 소리는 아이에게 의미없는 상태로 남아있을 것이다/

그것이 행동과 관련되어 발음되지 않는다면/

그 행동은 많은 사람들에 의해서 참여되어야 한다.

한 엄마가 아이를 밖에 데리고 나갈 때/

엄마는 'hat'이라고 발음한다 / 그녀가 아이의 머리에 뭔가를 씌워주면서

밖으로 데리고나가지는 것은 아이에게 관심이 된다./

엄마와 아이는 함께 신체적으로 밖으로 나가는 것뿐만 아니라,/

둘다 외출에 관심이 있다 /

그리고 그들은 그것을 공통으로 즐긴다

활동에서 다른 요소들과 결합됨으로써/

“hat”이라는 소리는 아이에게 같은 의미를 갖게 된다

그 의미는 부모가 갖고 있는 것이다/

그것은 활동의 표시이고/

그 활동을 아이가 시작한다

언어가 상호 인식할수 있는 소리로 구성된다라는 있는 그대로의 사실은 /

그 자체만으로 보여주기에 충분하다/

그것의 의미가 연관성에 의존한다는 것을/

공유된 경험과의
