I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. (1 Corinthians 3:6-7)
나는 심었고 아볼로는 물을 주었으되 오직 하나님은 자라나게 하셨나니 그런즉 심는 이나 물주는 이는 아무것도 아니로되 오직 자라나게 하시는 하나님뿐이니라(고린도전서 3:6∼7)
아볼로와 바울은 각각 소명대로 하나님을 위해 일하는 사역자들(God’s servants)이자 서로 협력해야 하는 동역자(partners)들이다. 따라서 성도들은 서로 분파를 형성하고 견제해야 하는 존재라기보다는 하나님의 일을 이루어나가는 동역자(partners working together for the God)라는 사실을 알 수 있다.본문의 plant는 ‘심다’라는 뜻으로 plant some seeds는 ‘씨앗을 심다’, plant some seedlings는 묘목을 심다,plant trees는 ‘나무를 심다’이다.

Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him; for God’s temple is sacred, and you are that temple. (1 Corinthians 3:16∼17)
너희가 하나님의 성전인 것과 하나님의 성령이 너희 안에 거하시는 것을 알지 못하느뇨 누구든지 하나님의 성전을 더럽히면 하나님이 그 사람을 멸하시리라 하나님의 성전은 거룩하니 너희도 그러하니라(고전 3:16∼17)
성전(temple)은 하나님께서 이 땅 위에 임재하시는 장소(여호와의 집)를 의미하기 때문에 거룩함의 상징이다.예를 들면 “The Lord is in his holy temple; let all the earth be silent before him”은 “여호와는 그 성전에 계시니 온 천하는 그 앞에서 잠잠할지니라”이다.신약에서는 구원 받은 공동체인 교회를 가리켰을 뿐만 아니라 바울은 “Your body is a temple” 또는 “We are the temple of the living God”이라고 말해 하나님의 백성 하나하나가 하나님의 성전임을 강조했다.
